back from Cornwall to Chingford
I was away if you didn’t notce, bit of relaxation, bit of surfing (near death experience ill explain below)
maybe you missed my newsletter last week
which reminds me hit the unsubscribe button below if you want to opt out
hit the change preference button to carry on with these emails
but back to how i nearly came a cropper
with surfing the best waves are ‘out back’
before they have broken, theres a nice face on the waveyou can move about on
you can also sit there without getting hit by any wall of white water of an already broken wave
its nice, relaxing, pretty safe .. theres time to think
but you have to get there
you have to paddle out
through those walls of already broken waves
which is hard, not relaxing and can be unsafe
where i surf theres a path down the cliff to the sea
where depending on the tide you sometimes have to jump in from the rocks (thats NOT me in the pic)
its a shorter distance to paddle as you are already in deep water
but you are against rocks
and there can be waves coming at you
a mistake i made wednesday
where after waiting for a lull in the waves coming, i jumped in and paddled hard knowing another ‘set’ (group of waves) would be coming soon and i needed to be far out to reduce the risk of getting pushed back against the cliff (bad times)
the set came earlier than expected
the waves were bigger than i judged
there was more waves then i hoped for
now i really AM stuck between a rock and a hard place
tired (id surfed the previous evening too and my arms felt like lead)
ducking under the wave only to see ANOTHER wave breaking in front of me
ready to push me back again
i really DID consider ditching my board
swimming back
seeing if i could climb out, without getting injured, tail between my legs
but somehow after a lot of swearing
i managed to duck, paddle, duck, paddle… enough times to finally make it
out back
in the safety of deep water
where i was too tired to surf anyway by this stage…. lesson learnt!
but this reminded me of the struggles clients have with weight loss, body composition change, health or fitness goals
the plan
the knock backs
repeated difficulties
wave after wave of obstacles
pushing them back
testing their resilience
testing to see if they will quit and retreat
potentially hitting them up against the rocks ready to give up on it all together
but also the joy of finally getting through that difficult starting period
to getting to the place where the results happen
where it comes easier, is more relaxing
and you can enjoy the process
also the increase in strength and fitness from getting there, through those struggles
it also linked with a lecture on behaviour change i recently was at
and how important it is to recognise these potential set backs, hurdles and
this ill go in to in the next emails
but the family resistance, friends giving you a hard time
the work social life getting in the way
holidays, wedding, birthdays
results not happening straight of the bat
missing out on things
the impact the change has on your lifestyle
wave of challenges to overcome
and in the next email ill let you in to a way of managing this stuff
so its less likely to get the better of you
especially if you are just aware of it all before you get cracking
like me….next time ill just go in from the beach!!
if you want any help, a chat, advice or questions answered the please feel free to reply to this email… ill be happy to help
(as long as its fitness or nutrition related … not surfing)
or pop in to the studio in South Woodford to say hello and see what we do!
